Memorandum of Understanding between WIPO and HIPO concerning the recognition of WIPO’s Patent Drafting Training Program

We are very proud to share that the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office has signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning the recognition of WIPO’s Patent Drafting Training Program, marking a significant milestone in our cooperation with WIPO.

Thanks to this agreement — and a recent change in Hungarian legislation —patent attorney candidates holding a WIPO Certificate will now be able to apply for the Hungarian patent attorney exam after just two years of professional practice instead of three. We believe this initiative will help increase the number of qualified patent attorneys in Hungary by providing easier access for the candidates.

The signing took place in Geneva on 15 July, on the sidelines of the 66th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO.

During the meeting, Mr. Szabolcs Farkas, President of HIPO, and Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of WIPO, discussed further shared goals and potential future cooperation.

The meeting was also attended by Ms Zsófia Havasi, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the UN and WTO.

In addition, a Joint Master’s Program in IP Management at Corvinus University — developed in cooperation with WIPO — is currently under accreditation. It will address forward-looking topics on the economic and strategic aspects of intellectual property, such as IP commercialization and valuation.

We would like to thank WIPO for their assistance in publishing the recent report on IP-backed financing in the Visegrad Countries.  There is much to do, since IP is underutilized in financing in our region, but we strive to take a more proactive role and aim to develop a credible IP valuation ecosystem.

We are confident that these initiatives will contribute to developing a new generation of IP and financial professionals, analysts and advisors ready to meet the challenges of today’s innovation-driven economy.

We sincerely thank WIPO for this valuable opportunity and look forward to continued fruitful collaboration.
